I was a "traditional" personal trainer for the first 18 years of my personal training career. You know, the kind of trainer that pushes a person out of their comfort level using various techniques in order to help a client get stronger and build up their endurance. The kind of trainer that most people are afraid of in the gym!
However, as time went on, something inside me changed after attending fitness conferences and hearing more and more of the importance of establishing better mind/body connection. The thing I could actually see and observe when I started trying to synchronize the mind and body connection into both my own training sessions and my clients is how much of an impact stress and anxiety inhibited proper movement patterns.
Since starting this new way of training about 5 years ago, I feel that I have mastered a way to quiet the noise of the mind and let the body find its way back to moving like it used to in its younger years. Each client is amazed at what his/her body is capable of doing once the mind gets out of the way!
I start a client out using guided imagery to help him/her reconnect to the body and its parts again. After the mind starts quieting down in approx. 4 weeks, I then start training the mind and body to learn to work as partners and not against each other. Outside of our weekly training sessions at my home, each client is given a separate program to do in the privacy of their own home that does not require much space or equipment. I change the home program once a month and vary the ones done in my studio as well.
You might be saying right now after reading what I just wrote that you don't have the will power to be by yourself and do the program I give you at your own home. That is the fear that I spoke about on my home page. Courageous people do what they believe in their hearts they should do, no matter how they feel or what doubts fill their minds. Start taking ownership of your problems.
The best way to help you better understand my training method is to talk to one of my current clients. They can tell you about it from their point of view and how it has affected their everyday life. My clients range from 22 years old to 91 years old.
